Registration Opened | Summer Course: Orofacial pain and dysfunction

Registration has officially opened for the International Summer Course on Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction, taking place from 1–4 July 2026 at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA)!  

With the full programme confirmed, dental professionals from around the world are invited to join an intensive four-day learning experience focused on the latest scientific insights and clinical approaches in this rapidly evolving field.

This international course offers a unique opportunity to deepen your clinical understanding, strengthen your diagnostic and management skills, and learn directly from leading experts in the field of Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction. Through a dynamic combination of lectures, hands-on workshops and interactive case discussions, participants will gain knowledge and practical tools that can be applied in their daily clinical practice.

Learn from internationally recognised experts

The course is organised by orofacial pain specialists Prof. Dr. Frank Lobbezoo, Dr. Michail Koutris and Dr. Annemarie van der Wal, and brings together a team of experts from dentistry, physiotherapy, psychology, anatomy and sleep medicine. Participants will benefit from a diverse faculty of specialists who will share the latest insights, clinical expertise and practical experience in the diagnosis and management of Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction.

Interactive lectures on the latest insights in Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction

The programme includes a series of engaging lectures that provide participants with a strong evidence-based foundation in the field. Topics covered include:

  • Orofacial anatomy and the fundamentals of orofacial pain
  • Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and bruxism
  • Dental sleep medicine and obstructive sleep apnea
  • Neuropathic pain and conditions such as headache and neck pain
  • Tooth wear assessment and management

These sessions are designed to translate current scientific knowledge into practical insights that support better diagnosis and treatment decisions in clinical practice.

Hands-on workshops and interactive case discussions

A key element of the summer course is its strong focus on practical training. During hands-on workshops, participants will practice essential clinical skills, such as:

  • Clinical assessment and examination of TMD and bruxism
  • Bite registration for stabilization splints and mandibular advancement devices
  • Physiotherapy approaches and pain education
  • Sensory testing techniques
  • Assessment of tooth wear

The summer course concludes with interactive case discussions, where participants analyse complex clinical cases and integrate the knowledge gained throughout the week.
