Bio

Professor Geert van der Heijden, PhD, holds the chair in Social Dentistry at ACTA. He is a career scientist in clinical epidemiology with ample expertise with research on outcomes and effectiveness of health care, in particular randomized trials, meta-analyses and diagnostic and prognostic accuracy studies. He is an experienced senior lecturer in evidence based medicine and contemporary epidemiological research methodology.
Van der Heijden holds the opinion that mastering the medical evidence is vital for health care. His aim is to speed up the adoption of outcomes of research in patient care and adherence of health care practitioners to clinical practice guidelines. In research and teaching his focus is therefore on evidence based medicine and decision making at point of care.
Van der Heijden has published several book chapters, co-authored different Dutch and international clinical guidelines and his research is published in, among other peer reviewed scientific journals, The Lancet, Britisch Medical Journal, Annals of Internal Medicine, PLOS-One, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, American Journal of Epidemiology, Journal of Clinical Epidemiology. With over 290 publications and more than 7500 citations his H-factor amounts to 46 (June 1, 2013).
