In 2002, Dr. Alexa Laheij completed her master's degree in Psychology at the University of Tilburg. In 2007 she obtained her master's degree in Dentistry with honours at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA). She successfully defended her dissertation entitled ‘Factors influencing oral health during cancer treatment’ at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) in 2014, while also working part-time as a dentist in a general practice. At ACTA, she currently works at the Department of Oral Medicine as Associate Professor and Head of the Department. Also, she works as a dentist in the Expertise Centre for Graft versus Host Disease in the Amsterdam UMC, at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Dentistry. Furthermore, Alexa is co-owner of a general dental practice. She is Chair of the VMTI, Vice-Chair of the NTG and Vice-Chair of the KIMO guideline ‘Extramurale mondzorg tijdens en na kankerbehandeling’. Her area of expertise is oral supportive care in cancer.
