Dr. Karin van Nes is a paediatric dentist and has been appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Paediatric Dentistry at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA). After her graduation in dentistry and medical anthropology, she worked with special needs groups such as children with or without special needs and individuals with substance use disorders in a Centre for Special Care Dentistry. Her dissertation focused on health behaviour change in parents of high caries risk children, with a particular emphasis on the Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) model. Furthermore, some of Karin's core interests include ethics, chair side behavioural support, and effective communication in culturally diverse groups. Clinically, she focusses on the treatment of deep caries lesions and enamel disturbances such as amelogenesis imperfecta.
