Additionally, in 2023, Merel successfully completed the Oral Health Sciences programme at ACTA, thereby earning a post-initial master's degree in Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction (OPD). Ever since graduating as a dentist, Merel has dedicated her career to patient care, education, and research. Besides her clinical work in a general dental practice, she was appointed as Assistant Professor at the Department of Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction at ACTA in 2023. Within this function, she enjoys integrating her educational responsibilities with research activities, and vice versa. Her research focus is expanding to include orofacial pain, dysfunction, and salivary issues in patients with neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson's disease. Above all, she is committed to supporting vulnerable patient populations.
