Bio

In 1987, Prof. Dr. Hugo de Bruyn obtained his PhD at the University of Groningen and a master's degree in Periodontology in Lund in 1988. In 2004, Prof. Dr. Hugo de Bruyn was appointed as Professor of Periodontology and Oral Implantology at the University of Ghent. Since 2023, he has been affiliated with the Academic Center for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA). Before, he worked as a periodontist-implantologist in his referral practice in Brussels. He has also been Associate Professor and Visiting Professor at the Dental School Malmö in Sweden. His research focuses on oral implantology and in particular on peri-implantitis and patient-related outcomes and risk factors for the success of oral implants. Hugo's lectures are no-nonsense, clinically applicable and based on his own research. Furthermore, Hugo has supervised 22 mainly clinical PhDs and is the author of more than 200 international publications with a clinical focus.
